For Chocolate Bundt Cake Lovers Two types of whisky can capture a chocolate Bundt cake’s dense cocoa richness. One method uses roasted barley to impart cocoa flavour, like with a stout beer. The second method, slightly more common, ages the whisky twice in brand-new charred American oak barrels. When cocoa beans are roasted to make chocolate or a barrel is charred to make whisky, the heat browns the food (or wood) and creates roasted aromas and flavours. Lot No. 40 Dark Oak Canadian Whisky, made from 100 percent rye and twice barrelled in virgin oak, showcases bold, rich, bittersweet chocolate notes alongside rye spices. For Vanilla Shortbread Lovers Vanilla shortbread cookies have a delicate, buttery flavour with a hint of vanilla that is approachable for almost any palate. For a whisky with soft vanilla-infused aromas, choose a single malt matured predominantly or entirely in ex-bourbon casks for at least 12 years—or longer for a more developed creamy, buttery, biscuity flavour. Dalwhinnie 15-Year-Old is a medium-bodied single malt that can appeal to new Scotch drinkers or seasoned connoisseurs. Produced in the Highlands, its flavour boasts harmonious notes of honeyed malt, delicate heather and vanilla ice cream topped with poached pears.
