Hidden Gems for Spring Sipping 5 fresh varieties you’ll want to try
BY DAENNA VAN MULLIGEN
GRÜNER VELTLINER Austria’s most beloved white grape variety, Grüner Veltliner can deliver wines fresh and crisp or fuller-bodied and riper in style. Found predominantly in the country’s northeastern Niederösterreich region, Grüner Veltliner expresses stone fruit and spice characters. Pair it with seafood, pork tenderloin or a salad of spring green veggies.
SOAVE Soave is named for the town and surrounding region in northeastern Italy’s Veneto region where it is grown. Soave wines are made primarily from the Garganega white grape variety, which suggests peach, melon, green almond and citrus notes. Linguine with scallops, creamy risottos and mushroom dishes are lovely pairings with Soave.
