INSPIRED BY VANCOUVER ISLAND In 2015, a young couple was inspired by their daily stroll on a beach near their home in Shirley, British Columbia (BC), formerly named Sheringham. As Jason MacIsaac, a trained chef, and his entrepreneurial wife, Alayne, discussed the idea of creating a gin of their own, they pondered what the flavour expression would be. “The sea breeze was blowing in, roses were blooming and we wondered how to get the feel of this place into a gin,” says Jason. They didn’t set out to make the world’s best contemporary gin. But Sheringham Distillery’s first foray into spirit making was recognized as just that.
