| SPARKLING WINE SIX WAYS |

Since the Crémant becomes effervescent through second fermentation in bottle, the wine can be intriguing, complex and charming. It’s a casually elegant choice for standing cocktail- style events with finger foods or for sipping on its own. Yet it sells for a fraction of the price of Champagne. Prosecco Prosecco is Italy’s best-known and most popular sparkling wine. And it has never been better than it is today thanks to fierce competition and more stringent grape-growing and winemaking regulations put in place in 2009. Prosecco is made from Glera grapes, which tend to taste like pear but are often nuanced with honeysuckle, grapefruit and cool minerality. To make Prosecco, producers press and ferment Glera grapes to make a still wine. Then, they ferment that wine in large stainless steel tanks to make it bubbly. The wine is bottled, corked and shipped to market, meant to be enjoyed young and fresh. It’s easy drinking and accessible, and at around $20 a pop, it won’t break the bank, making it ideal for cocktail parties and open-house style events, served with cheeses or sipped on its own. Prosecco Rosé In 2019, a brand-new category of Prosecco launched internationally: Prosecco Rosé DOC. If you haven’t tasted this stylish vino, do so. It’s total casual elegance, and it’s a showstopper. Prosecco Rosé must be made from Glera and Pinot Noir, with the Pinot Noir giving the wine its pink tint and a touch of berry-violet goodness on the nose and palate. Like its white counterpart, Prosecco Rosé is made using the tank method. But unlike white Prosecco, the rosé must be vintage dated. Try Prosecco Rosés like Bottega’s Il Vino dei Poeti with roast turkey or to create a splash of colour at any event.
