40 Knots Winery
Located on Vancouver Island near Comox, just 600 metres from the ocean, 40 Knots Winery makes wines that are stylistically spot-on for modern tastes. “We’ve learned to embrace our natural acidity and be true to this place,” says co-owner and winemaker Layne Robert Craig. Layne and his wife, Brenda Hetman-Craig, purchased the property in 2014. The listing unexpectedly popped up during a Google search for a vortex generator, to prevent Layne’s plane from stalling at below 40 knots! Although the couple was already planning a move from Fort St. John to Vancouver Island, the unexpected search result set their new course.
